Scouse alarm clock

Poor Daniel Levy. Rumours in today's press suggest that whilst holidaying in Florida he was woken yesterday in the middle of the night (due to the time difference) by an angry Paul Jewell. Just imagine it. An angry scouser calling the shots. The Wigan boss apparently phoned him up to tell him that although Chimbonda might be available, the fee isn't negotiable. It seems that the Latics have reduced their asking price to £5.5 million (from the £6 million previously quoted), but Spurs need to stop submitting lower offers or trying to offload players in exchange.

Personally, I think £5.5 million is an acceptable deal for us so it's a case of getting the chequebook out again. The only other addition we need is a left-sided midfielder. It's a shame we didn't get Duff, but that's the way it goes. Downing is not worth £12 million in my opinion. And since I can't think of any other realistic English-based options, I think we need to see who Damien Comolli can source from abroad.

As for Andy Reid and Danny Murphy, I think the writing's on the wall for those two as neither has settled particularly well and both have been offered up as make-weights in the Chimbonda negotiations. If they don't have a future at Spurs then they should be allowed to leave quickly and quietly, while enabling us to trim the wage bill.
