Who will we have left to play up-front?!?!

I was a little hung-over on Sunday morning when I read the News of the World, and was sure that I must have misread one of the sports stories, linking Robbie Keane with a move to Liverpool. I mean, please… Keano is a Spurs legend. He lives, breathes and sleeps Tottenham. He’s had six great years at the club, and despite regular rumours linking him with a transfer, for the past twelve months I’d have predicted he was the most unlikely departure from the club.

However, upon glancing at the latest football stories last night before going bed, I was shocked, no horrified, that the Daily Mail were running a story claiming that Keano is indeed keen to join Liverpool. The newspaper states:

Robbie Keane stunned Tottenham by telling them he wants to leave. Sportsmail can reveal that Republic of Ireland striker Keane delivered his shock transfer demand after learning Liverpool had lodged a player-plus-cash bid for him on Friday. The 28-year-old came out of a meeting at White Hart Lane having left club officials in little doubt about his eagerness to play for his boyhood idols.
I mean, we’ve all known for at least a year now that if we failed to qualify for the Champions League, Berba would be off. But Keane? I know the club is greater that any one individual, but I am still in a state of shock. But then if ManUre has to fight to keep Ronaldo, then we can’t assume anyone is for keeps these days.

As well as being the club’s vice captain, I see Keano as one of our most committed and intelligent players. I can’t think of a greater ‘second’ striker in the Premier League as Keane at the moment, so in some ways it should come as no surprise that a Champions League side want him.

I do think he’ll be harder to replace, should he depart, than Berba or Bent. Keane’s incredibly high work-rate, coupled with the way he links play together and his solid scoring record will leave a massive whole in our strike-force. So surely Ramos won’t allow Bent to also move on? To lose all three, having sold Defoe in January, would strike me as crazy.

And don’t go making out that all is well because part of the deal would involve lanky-robot-geek returning to WHL. I mean losing Keane is one thing, it would be another if we only got £5 million in cash for him (which is what
the Daily Mail has claimed), but to then waste a wheelbarrow-full of wages on Crouch would just really ruin my summer.

I’m off on holiday in a few days, and have a dreadful feeling that I will return home to find that my beloved Spurs don’t have a single recognised striker left (other than Crouch)!

Now I know we have dos Santos, and I guess he could play the Keane role, but let’s remember he has no Premier League experience and is still very young. Don’t get me wrong, I’m delighted we’ve signed him and will be excited to see him play, but if we’re relying on him to start 40 or 50 odd matches next season, we’re in a mess.

I guess the only good news right now is that Huddlestone has signed a new deal. He was one of the players who looked like his future may be a little uncertain, so I’m sure it’s a relief to him as well as to those of us that rate him. But come on Ramos, it’s all very well ensuring we have the best midfield possible for the new season, if we don’t have anyone decent for them to supply, we’re screwed.

id be very annoyed with robbie if he cashed in Hero(dum) for a season on the bench? is then champions league all that brilliant? the group stage is worse than the UEFA! however, if this is true and we have berba to barca = 25mil and keane to liverpool (cash only! no freak!) = 20 mil then Juande will have some serious coin to splash on two forwards! screw keane if he wants to become the new dirk Kuyt and run around bein rafa's bitch then let him! (if this is all true! when he comes out and says its bull ill take it all back!) not the CL bit tho!

Perhaps you could justify this comment, its been on the cards that Berba and Bent would go, but letting Keane go would be nigh on suicide and scupper any chance of top four in the foreseeable future. Was it not reported not that long ago we were trying to obtain lanky one and benayoun for £15m, therefore lanky & 5M falls short of the £20m price on Keano's head, god forebid the heirarchy let it happen. Also have a Keane & Berba mad 8 year old whom I fear losing to some red wearing northern scum outfit (or goons or wetspam), this can't happen

Personally I recon if this is true that Ramos wants to change the style of football we play and that would be no bad thing as I feel Berbatov and Keane despite scoring lots of goals hinder the rest of the team with their scrappy goals meaning we perhaps do not play the free flowing football Ramos may want. When I say this I mean a clear example of this would be all the golas scored last season were either lennon has muffed a cross and keane or Berbatov have been there to knock it in! Also I wouldnt be worried about crouch because were clearly gonna bring in some decent replacements and have him as a 3rd choice. Sir Alan mentioned something was in the pipeline at spurs which would make any spurs fan grin from ear to ear. I think he may have been referring to Lucas Podolski as I overheard him talking about Jurgen Klinnsman to Kemsley the other day or David Villa as he has spoken to me about how great a player he is and how spurs should sign a player of his quality but he wouldn't give me any details on this occasion due to his lack of involvement with the club nowadays he didnt see it as his place . Anyways despite Robbie Keanes passion and his hard working mentality which i think we will miss more than his goals I dont mind if he signs for liverpool as I believe there is better out there and many spurs fans opinions are clouded by his passion on the field for us over the past 5 years or so. I think with Villas target finding and Podolskis speed with crouch as a target man we will be better off than before. COYS

If Keane was so commited and loved the club as so many think he does then he wouldnt entertain the thought of leaving, so I guess his commitment is answered if the story is true.

Its a cliche but no player is bigger than the club so I wont be crying in my cornflakes if he goes.

Good riddance to anyone who doesnt want to wear the lilywhite with pride.

I have faith that Ramos will build a great team if we give him time.

Exactly and i thought he came out at the start of the transfer window and said that he would stay and help take Tottenham onto future european and league success and wanted more silverware ! Clearly he didnt think anyone would come in for him otherwise he wouldnt have said that. Another point were not considering is the idea that Berbatov might stay mind you Crouch and Berbatov up front together they could just header it over everyone haha ! COYS !

Wahey Lee Boy is back on N7teen ! That little rant you went on mate only had a few spelling mistakes see your improving under Sir Alans wing. However I will have to disagree with you Mr McQueen as I think Keane and Berbatov are magic to watch. Though what you say is true Sir Alan does not have a large influence over spurs any more so perhaps you over hearing him talking about Klinnsman could mean a 1/1000 chance that it happened to be about Podolski anyways enjoyed reading the Rant Lee now get back to work you loud mouthed dumb prick !

Isn't Keano on honeymoon at the moment so find it strange how he had a meeting with the Board telling them that he wanted to join Liverpool. I don't believe this trash from the two worst rags around
