Please can I have my money back?

After last night’s setback in Ukraine, I felt compelled to write to our beloved club:

Dear Mr Levy,

I am writing to you in my capacity as season ticket holder, shareholder and most importantly, lifelong supporter. Along with all other Spurs fans I am troubled by our league position, but am confident that we have what it takes to stay up this season. We have a good manager, good players, a large squad, and a fixture list that should enable us to pick up enough points to retain our Premier League status. We can then build on the above and move forward in a, hopefully, more positive way next season.

What concerns me though is the disregard shown by our manager to the UEFA Cup. Not only is this a trophy that is reasonably prestigious (it might not be the Champions League, but it helps attracts quality players, gets plenty of TV coverage, and is a wonderful opportunity for fans to participate in football beyond these shores), but it is a trophy held dear to the hearts of Tottenham fans. We were the inaugural winners of the competition back in 1972 and it also proved to be our last taste of European success 25 years ago this season. We have a proud tradition in cup competitions and with our league troubles this season, the cup competitions have proved a pleasant distraction from the ‘bread and butter.’

Last night our team selection was disrespectful to Tottenham fans the world over, not to mention the 190 that actually travelled all the way to Ukraine. Yes we had players that were cup tied and injured, but to rest other first team players was unnecessary. We have one of the larger playing squads in the Premier League and should be able to cope with midweek cup games. Yes we have plenty of fixtures coming up, but not an unreasonable amount. We have a game virtually each weekend and one midweek for the next few weeks. What’s unusual about that? We all saw the fixture list at the beginning of the season. If things are that scary why didn’t we bring in additional players in the recent transfer window?

I purchased tickets for next week’s return leg in good faith. However, I’ve now been told that we’ll be playing more youngsters than we did last night. It seems to me that the club has given up on the UEFA Cup and to me that’s a travesty. Why not take the competition seriously? We talked about qualifying for Europe enough, then when we finally achieved that aim again we act like it’s a nuisance and something we could do without. If the club are happy to write it off, why should the fans spend their hard earned money on attending the games?

All this talk about preserving our squad for crucial league matches is all very well, but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that right now we need players to play with confidence. A win last night would have been the perfect springboard for a busy few weeks ahead. Instead, we’re on the back foot again and will no doubt head off to another away game on Monday worrying that if we’re not at least two goals clear going into the last ten minutes or so there’s a pretty high risk we’ll throw the game away again by conceding late goals.

Other than a couple of big setbacks (namely the way you treated Martin Jol and the fact that you allowed Damien Comolli to keep his job for as long as you did), I’ve been a fan of the way you have run the club. But now is the time, when things are difficult, that you need to stand up and do what is expected of someone in your position. You are considerably fortunate to run one of the biggest and best supported clubs in the world. Please pull rank, have a word, and sort out our manager’s approach to such an important competition. And if you’re not going to do that, I’d like to get a refund for the two tickets I’ve purchased for next Thursday’s second leg. Whether we’re in a recession or not, I think paying £70 for two tickets to a youth match is way over the odds.

Yours sincerely,
N7teen

I believe Mr.Rednapp is more concerned with his bonus to keep Spurs in the top flight, and just forget the rest.As a Spurs supporter i am very annoyed about this, and i am beginning to think that if this is the Tottenham of today I do not want any part of it.I for one will boycott the return match, and hope others will do the same.

Well said. I have forked out for three tickets for the return leg next week and just hope our kids can pull off the unthinkable. I cannot stand Zokora, never have, Bostock has to start next week or he never will!!

I think Harry watched a bit of Villa v CSKA and wanted to save the embarassment of getting humped in the next round!!

Harry is well out of his depth at spurs, he seems to blame everybody but himself.
He need to go he just isn't cutting it.

If you think Tottenham Hotspur F. C. are evr going to give you money back then I suggest you live in a a Parallel Universe.
By law senior citezens and children are supposed to receieve UEFA cup tickets at a reduced rate but the clud knowing our date of birth send full price tickets for every match and trying to obtain a refund is the equivalent of trying to climb Everest backwards I am afraid like drug addicts we are hooked on Spurs and like the vast majority of drug dealers THFC are out to get every penny

Id rather get knocked out of this competition than lose our place in the premier league which if we would get any more injurys to our big players we would be even further in the mire. You lot make me laugh i absolutly love this club and when we are sh8t i love em even more. Unlike the rest of you fickle lot. i guarantee half of you lot are the ones who boo our own players. You should be ashamed of yourselves and if i was Levy i would happily give back your season tickets as you are nothing but a bunch of fuckin moany old women.

WHAT A PATHETIC MOAN. THE TEAM LAST NIGHT WAS A STRONG ONE AND WE ARE BATTLING TO STAY IN THE PREMIERSHIP.

WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE SAID IF WE HAD PLAYED PALACIOS AND MODRIC AND THEY GOT INJURED ON WHAT WAS A TERRIBLE PITCH.

SUCH MOANS ARE TYPCAL OF A NUMBER OF OUR FANS AND IT IS SO DRAINING. I WENT TO THE GAME LAST NIGHT AND WOULD HAVE BEEN QUITE HAPPY WITH A 0-0 WHICH WE SHOULD HAVE GOT. IT WAS GREAT TO SEE THE LIKES OF FUNTER, DOS SANTOS AND PARRETT GET A GO AND WE CAN'T COMPLAIN.

THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THE UEFA CUP SHOULD AND IS THE LEAST OF OUR WORRIES AT THE MOMENT

THIS GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK RUBBISH IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT AS WE ARE PLAYING KIDS YOU DO NOT WANT TO PAY AND SEE THEM? WHAT A GREAT MESSAGE TO THESE YOUNG LADS WHO ARE TRYING THEIR UPMOST TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION.

PLEASE, FOR ONCE, GET BEHIND THE TEAM AND STOP SPOUTING THE USUAL RUBBISH THAT YOU ARE A LIFELONG FAN AND SEASON TICKET HOLDER. FANS LIKE YOU BRING CLUBS DOWN

To those that are annoyed at my rant, let me just say that I'm pretty principled and consistent in my beliefs.

Had we played a full side and lost (which I don't believe we would have done) and picked up injuries, I wouldn't have blamed Redknapp. That's part of football and just one of those things. If we'd picked up injuries I might MOAN but I wouldn't attribute BLAME.

As for always complaining about the club I think that is harsh too. More often than not I try and provide a balanced view. If I feel particularly negative I just don't post that regularly. Last night and the build up to next week's second leg is really annoying me and I've every right to let off steam. In fact, I've as much right to air my views as anyone. If you don't like what's written on this blog then don't bother reading it or, preferably, make your point constructively.

zzzzzzzzzzzz. We are in a mess. I would rather sacrifice the UEFA Cup then have us playing MKD DONS and Barnsley next season. The problem does seem though, we play a weakened team in the cups and then with our full strength team we still get turned over in the league.

Its good to see the young kids get a go and hopefully they turn it on next week in the second leg. Seeing us lose is miserable and watching the tosh last night was painful, but given time and the fans behind the team we will get better.

Harry has been brought in to keep us up and nothing else. Dont blame him for making that his main goal.

Last nights performance was woeful. Zok needs to be sent packing as he cant string a pass together.

I really do dispair of our team sometimes..

Just because you're blindly confident we'll stay up doesn't mean that the rest of us are. What on earth have you seen over the past year and a half that suggests we're capable of staying up whilst fighting on 3 fronts. You're a fool I think. PRIORITY IS STAYING UP. Simple as. And for the record, Levy won't be reading your letter and you certainly won't be getting your money back.

Harry is doing the right thing. We don't have the squad to compete for that cup this year because of prior mismanagement. Too many key players cup tied etc apart from the imbalanced team that he inherited.
Get on with staying up and give it a good go in the final and then sit back and let Harry have a proper chance of putting a team together with resources he's never had before. He deserves at least that.
As far as spending your money and wanting it back. Simply said don't spend it. If it came to you as a surprise that we fielded a less experienced side in the state we are in, then you deserve all you get. Besides it's a might out, you get to see some of the future (hopefully) and they might just pull of an upset. They nearly did last night. If Bent hadn't tripped over his own feet at 0-0 you wouldn't have written what you said. As a fair weather fan you would be lauding Harry for his insight.

Damn right...the fans pay their money they should pick the players they want to watch. Who need a manager when we have know it all fans...prat. Get over yourselves, you pay to watch Spurs not specific players, if you don't like it hand over your season ticket to someone who'll be a little more grateful.

One can immeditely see why one's football team is in such a mess as there are obviously a large number of foul-mouthed, agressive supporters who are also blind and know absolutely nothing about football, good manners ot the great tradition of Tottenham Hotspur (probably because they are too young judging by their grammar and spelling). Well said N17, and to your naysayers I say B******s and F**k 0ff yourselves.

If you have a look at our remaining fixtures you will realise why we rested players last night. Apart from Blackburn we have by far the hardest run-in of the teams at the bottom. We have no chance of winning the UEFA cup (theres still 32 bloody teams in it). We have a much greater chance of being relegated. I think the team needs our support and not you mugs moaning about playing a weakened team in a 2nd rate European tin pot. By the way at least 5 of that weakened side will being playing In the Carling cup final. Start moaning now muppets.
